A Union’s Open Heart Fuels Fight to End Childhood AIDS

August 1, 2012

(From AFL-CIO) Early this year, Mike Tulloch, a member of Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 7803 in Washington State, tended to the myriad details of setting up the local’s annual golf tournament fundraiser for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. At the same time, Cristina Pena, a student at the University of Southern California, carried on the active life of a young college woman—a life that would have been impossible without the efforts of Tulloch, the local and all of CWA.

CWA Local 7803 held our 6th annual charity golf tournament to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids foundation on Sunday, June 26th. It was a glorious day full of sunshine and the greens were beautiful. It was a much different scene than the original date we planned to hold the tournament, which was May 15. That day the course was flooded with 7 holes underwater and unplayable.
The event organizers and officers of CWA Local 7803 would like to thank all our corporate sponsors and the individuals and businesses that supported this event by donating services or items for our raffle, or sponsoring a hole. These business and individuals are: AT&T - Dan Youmans, Dianne Green, King & Bunnys, Nettworth Financial – Karen Rutledge, Pacific Dental Alliance, Sports Authority, Sunrise Dental, Taco Time, The Renton Printery, The Rock Pizza, Tracy Lock & Key, and U-Frame It - Fuse (Renton).
We would also like to thank Lake Wilderness Golf Course, and Steve Englund for again hosting our event, for the fantastic chicken dinner, and for graciously accommodating us when the weather ruined our first tournament date. Thank you to all the members, friends and family of CWA Local 7803 who came out in support of our event, and donated generously to our charity. We enjoyed sharing a beautiful day on the course with you. Thank you for helping us continue our tradition of supporting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids foundation, and all the children who benefit from the advances in this important research.
